What's with the ads? I hear you cry.

We're going through kind of a transitional period here at Uppity Wisconsin, where we're starting to be a little more successful, and are also starting to have more expenses. Bandwidth needs are increasing, and I'm going to be doing some remote blogging from both the National Conference for Media Reform, and (we're hoping) the Democratic National Convention.

So we need to pay for this stuff somehow. Thus far almost all of the cost for running the site has come out of my own pocket, and a few generous contributors. But if the site is going to stay here and thrive, we need to start earning a little more money.

So as an experiment, we're chucking the Google ads and are signed up with ClicktoBlue. This is an interesting new ad network that works with progressive web sites to bring them more ad revenue. This is a big improvement for us in a number of ways, not the least of which is that we get more control over who advertises here (hey - the McCain ads are gone) and lets us work with a bunch of great advertisers. I'm not sure what the long term advertising situation will be on the site - it's a work in progress.

In the mean time, you might want to look into some of the advertisers who will be cropping up here - they're people who are trying to reach an audience of progressives, and they're helping to fund the site.
