Arctic drilling will save 75 cents a barrel
Posted May 25th, 2008 by warmmidwest
Reality can be so inconvenient.
If the U.S. allows drilling in the Arctic Wildlife Refuge, not only will it take 10 years for the oil to hit the market, it will only save about 75 cents per barrel.
Nevermind the costs of environmental rape.
So can we put this silly idea to rest already?

ANWAR
They told us ten years ago that it would take ten yers to get oil from ANWAR. The amount of oil we could be pumpimg now is more than the increase in consumption from then to now. We would likely have 250,000 extra barrels a day. That seems significant to me.
You mention the rape of the wilderness, but I'd like to know what actual evidence of rape there is? Have any facts or just wild emotion? Or, are you one of those super-elites who will impose on foriegn peoples the environmental damage you don't want to see in your back yard? I thought all the libs were against imperialism?
I'm Curious
Maybe it's me...or the late hour, but what is your point? There is NO SHORTAGE OF OIL........ANYWHERE! It is a hoax perpetrated by the oil giants and OPEC (read cartel...read also illegal in America). There isn't a "supply shortage"... it's a lie. Good ol' mother earth has given us a gazillion barrels of oil. They CREATE shortages of supply to raise the price. Any actual shortages are fictitious. Now, don't get me wrong it is a good thing to get out from under this "oil dictatorship" and burning oil is wreaking havoc on our envirnoment and for this reason your comment eludes me. What is your position..? The earth is FULL of oil, which means OIL is realistically worthless. Unless, you devise an ILLEGAL CARTEL and PROMOTE PROPAGANDA otherwise....are you following me here? This is a well established FACT, BusinessWeek has reported this as well. Check it out: http://www.businessweek.com/autos/content/may2007/bw20070510_630346_page_2.htm
Also this blog from the Wall Street Journal: (be sure to read the comments) http://blogs.wsj.com/environmentalcapital/2008/03/14/peak-oil-industry-numbers-disagree/
Also read Greg Palast's book "Armed Madhouse" a great resource.
Somebody's lying.....and it ain't us........
ANWR was created by a Republican Admin
First, ANWR was created by Republican President Eisenhower's Department of Interior.
Second, in 1987 a group of well-known liberals in Ronald Reagan's Interior Department did an environmental impact study that concluded the effects of energy exploration would adversly impact the environment.
In 2002, a multi-agency task force in the Bush Administration updated the projected impact statements on the environment, and further concluded that the chance of an oil spill would be devastating.
Now, take into consideration that the profitable extraction may yield anywhere from 600 million to 9.2 billion barrels of oil. So, it's not even known how much is there. It's all guesstimation. In any case, the U.S. uses 8 billion barrels a year, so maybe our lifestyle and economic vitality would carry on a little longer, but not much.
We need a realistic, renewable energy policy for this country, and ideally, one that helps offset all the jobs shipped overseas in recent years. Even McCain is against drilling in ANWR, and if it's such a liberal issue, how come a Republican Congress and President couldn't get enough support in their own party to pass it between 2000 - 2004?
