Beav Meets Hillary

This morning I was at Miss Katie's Diner and had the chance to meet Senator Clinton. Funny thing is, I wasn't there for that.  My kids and I got there ahead of family and friends to get some of the best milk shakes available in

Milwaukee

before heading to the Lion King. After seeing a few secret service agents and TV cameras, I was up for this however. What I learned about the Senator today was more important information than I expected though.

Now before I reveal what I learned, understand something about me- I have a very good bullshit detector.  I play a profitable mid-level of poker which requires a BS Detector, make my "real" living as an investment advisor which now-a-days requires a Super Advanced Deluxe BS Detector 2.1, have been around the outer fringes of politics for a couple decades which of course has plenty of stinky steps to avoid, and now have a couple kids about middle school age which is a special type of BS that only my father could have warned me about (I think he actually wished it on me as a karma sort of thing).

So, here it is, I learned that Hillary Clinton is very likable, and really seems to care about people.  This type of first hand knowledge isn't always available about the people we vote for since we have a hard time really knowing most of them.  Here's why I say Hillary is likable and caring.  We were at the last table on the Senator's walk around the diner and most of the cameras were being put away by the time she got to us.  Even so, she spent about five minutes at our table, with me, my mom, her friend and maybe most importantly, my ten year old daughter.

You see, I've been trying my whole fatherhood to make sure my daughter was a strong girl, in the hope she'll grow up to be a strong woman.  To that end, I've tried to point out strong women, beginning with my mom, moving to the super cool Amelia Earhart (come on, who wouldn't dig a woman who flew) and lately Hillary Clinton.  Well, I saw the way Hillary saw my daughter.  She spent a long time, especially to a kid, with a little girl who couldn't vote and without the cameras rolling, talking a bit about school, knowing she was being looked at as a role model and hero.  Hillary didn't have to do that.  As busy and probably tired as she was, she wanted to, it was clear.

It was so clear that my various BS detectors didn't go off.  That might just mean I was blinded by my daughter’s smile and shouldn’t play poker with Hillary, but I don’t think so.

So beyond Hillary making my daughter feel special, here's why else today was important to this voter.  Like I said above, in "real" life, I'm an investment advisor, and I happen to have a pretty diverse experience including degrees in econ and poly sci- so I understand some things.  One thing I know with a pretty high degree of conviction is that of the three remaining Presidential candidates, Senator Clinton is the best for our pocketbooks, there's really very little doubt of this.  Heck, look at the 1990s for some guidance if you doubt this point.  The 1990s were the best financial Presidency in history, and Hillary's would no doubt be similar.  Anyway, even though I can argue that issue pretty effectively, that's not the point of this post.  This was important because it tells me that Hillary can win, which means that voting for the best candidate, is worthwhile.  Senator Clinton is not only the best candidate, but Hillary is the Democrat who can win the general election.

HILLARY-OUS

Wow...  I wouldn't consider you much of a poker player with a blog like this.  The 90's were good only for those in global business.  Hillary is a corporate hack I don't care how starry-eyed she makes the parents of little girls.  We are talking about the worst economy and foreign affairs mess in our history aside from this illegal war.  A war that SHE voted for and one that she refuses to take the responsibility for being WRONG about!

Also, let me know when the poker game is, hopefully it's right after a nice payday for you, because that'll mean a nice payday for me is next:-}

1990s were best economy ever...

...more people did well than any other eight year period post WWII. Read OMBRA 1993 and how that worked out. The Clintons- you're fooling yourself if you think Hillary didn't have a role- cut the deficit, pulled more people out of poverty, strengthened the currency which contrary to neo-con hacks is important (we are about to have a weak currency recession for folks to experience that isn't going to be pretty and hopefully wakes them up) and had no wars (Bush deciding to be a hard guy caused this one). I'll tell you what. I AM the swing voter, and I am going to have a hard time voting for Obama over McCain, for security reasons, economic reasons (Obama and his current advisors are too far left) and I'm simply not willing to trust somebody with no track record (frankly it blows my mind so many people are). So, even if Obama wins the nomination, he's got a snowballs chance of beating the Repubs. They don't have to worry about offending the Dem left as Hillary does, so they are free to fire away and with effect. They will. And, they'll hit enough target to win. I've said it once, I've said it twice, I'll say it again: The most likely way to have a sustained progressive agenda is for Hillary and Barack to run together, and hold the White House for sixteen years.
