Breaking - State Rep. Pedro Colón Beats Ballot Nomination Challenge In Unanimous Win

Update: Esperanza Unida's - whose chair and atty tried to remove two opponents from the ballot - payroll problems continue under Miranda's administration

The Government Accountability Board (GAB) has unanimously affirmed the candidacy of progressive state Rep. Pedro Colón (D-Milwaukee), rejecting a bad-faith attempt to remove Colón from the ballot from his opponent, Laura Manriquez.

Yah!

I will have more to say on this later.

The GAB staff recommendation can be found at: http://elections.state.wi.us/docview.asp?docid=14329&locid=47.

Bad sign

I would't celebrate too exuberantly.  It's a bad sign that his campaign was so careless, sloppy or disorganized that it even had to worry about a challenge.  There is no excuse for not having had 400 valid signatures, twice the required number, to begin with.

Nunber of Signatures Is Typical

State Rep Christopher Baeb: 256 Signatures
State Rep Chrstine Sinicki: 241 Signatures
State Rep Frederick P. Kessler: 239 Signatures
State Rep Mark Pocan: 231 Signatures

Many more examples from Democratic incumbents and challengers are at: http://elections.state.wi.us/docview.asp?docid=11290&locid=47

Reps. Coggs and Colon (and challenger Guzman) had the misfortune (in that it wasted time) of a bad-faith challenge that was knocked down properly and unanimously by GAB. Colon ended up with the virtually the identical number of signatures after the challenge as before.

I expect you will be reading more of the entanglements of the non-profit, Esperanza Unida, Inc, into the electoral arena in the near future.

When is a win not a win,

when is a unanimous ruling is not a win. ... I realize from past posts that you do not like Pedro Colón for sticking up for a sexual harassment victim, and I have heard why. Sexual harassment is no laughing matter, and I applaud Colón for his work.

Perhaps your personal gripes blind your eyes to the fact that Laura Manriquez and Co are just a tad litigious. More on that later.

Her complaint was shot down unanimously, did I mention?

Unfortunately, such is the

Unfortunately, such is the world we live in these days. The artificial atmosphere built around such cases sticks better than the ruling itself.

Laura Manriquez

would not win in this district, no matter much she and her cohorts try to intimidate the residents, so she tries this sleazy maneuver.

What's Colon accomplished?

So, is it your general policy just to attack anyone personally who disagrees with you?

Everything is not about Pedro Colon and John Norquist -- or even about Pedro Colon and Victor Arrellano, the latest to be accused of sexual harassment. (I wonder if Attorney Arrellano is a bit more skeptical of those claims now.)

I happen to think that Colon has done virtually nothing since he first got elected, using a campaign plan I wrote for him. He ran for mayhor for about 10 minutes, and this year ran on a phony platform for city attorney -- and was soundly rejected by the voters.

What, exactly, has Colon done for the community?

That's what the campaign should be about.

XOFF you are correct.

Colon has done very little for the community. Your initial campaign plan for him WAS excellent, but he failed to follow through on his original promise. He is not a full time legislator. He holds several other jobs. How can anyone do one job excellently when he has three or four jobs going on at the same time? All his jobs suffer.

Not a co-conspirator

By the way, I never heard of Laura Manriquez, so please leave me out of the web of conspiracy.

XOFF--What? You have never heard of Laura Manriquez?!?!

How could you have NOT have heard of Laura Manriquez? She was the campaign manager for Lorraine Macnamara_Macgraw. Your daughter was the campaign manager for John Chisholm. Laura Manriquez was able to secure about 30% of the vote---when it really should have been under 5%.
Another reason you should have heard of her is that she is very active state-wide in AODA issues; issues sadly familiar to your family, and had a direct hand in legislation beneficial to those with AODA issues!

good for her, i guess

but I had never heard of her until last week
