Butler Defeat and Lessons Learned

Despite winning by large margins in Wisconsin's two most populous counties, Dane and Milwaukee Counties, Louis Butler lost a narrow race to to a contemptible politician who will remembered in the same muck as Joe McCarthy, Bob Kasten, and Annette Ziegler.

Lessons Learned

- Never let WMC get on the air first

- Speak clearly about what the campaign is about, as in a narrow, corrupt band of liars seeking power versus the rule of law

- Educate the public about the role of the office; it's an appellate court demanding impartiality

- Faced with money and lies, the Democrats need to sound an all hands and get public, on-air support from every Democratic official. I only heard from Herb Kohl this election

1. Greater Wisconsin was the

1. Greater Wisconsin was the first group to air TV ads, not WMC.

2. I agree.

3. This is absolutely assinine. Why would you waste your limited campaign resources to "educate" the public? How about spending money on a message that can win? Arguing that everyone is entitled to a defense attorney is a losing message.

4. Endorsements do not mean anything. Focus on your winning message.

There is something wrong, in

There is something wrong, in the election of Justices.
This is the only statewide office, that is NOT in the general elections in November.
Why select the longest term postition, voters offer, in the election with the least voter turnout?

I am sure WMC has 3.2Million answers for that question.

We need a simple law that requires any statewide or federal office to be elected in the November general elections. We have them every two years, and they can easily fit the Supreme Court on those ballots.

This office deserves to be placed in the election that repsects it's authority, not to make it easier to win.
Gableman won. But with only 12% of the states entire registered voters participating.

The 12% Justice.
I find that a bit insulting to the office of a Supreme Court Justice.
Change the election date to the first tuesday, after the first Monday, in November.
Our highest court deserves the highest potential voter participation.

Club for growth

was the first (WMC on radio a day later), with GW though chronologcally competitive, not matching the various righwing liars in $.

As "Why would you waste your limited campaign resources to 'educate' the public?"; the whole problem is that much of the public has no clue as to the role of an appellate court. If it did the BS appeals to fear would not play; but rather dedication to law and impartiality would be the deciding factors.

We tried it your way, twice, it doesn't work.

We tried it your way,

We tried it your way, arguing that everyone is entitled to a defense attorney, and it did not work. The public does not care.

It is not the job of a candidate to educate the public. It is their job to win.

You're right,

let's get rid of that Sixth Amendment thing, and all the rest of those bothersome rights, pledging eternal hostility to all rights that get in the way of tyranny. And thanks for making my point.

I am not saying that they

I am not saying that they are not, all I am saying is that not is not a winning argument.
