Any day now, expect a piece of mail from John McCain, Sarah Palin and the Republican National Committee, telling you that Barack Obama worked closely with Bill Ayers to blow up the U.S. Capitol and kill Americans.

Hundreds of thousands of voters in more than a dozen states got this autocall last week:

MALE VOICE: Hello, I’m calling for John McCain and the RNC because you need to know that Barack Obama has worked closely with domestic terrorist Bill Ayers, whose organization bombed the US Capitol, the Pentagon, a judge’s home, and killed Americans. And Democrats will enact an extreme leftist agenda if they take control of Washington. Barack Obama and his Democratic allies lack the judgment to lead our country. This call is paid for by McCain-Palin 2008 and the Republican National Committee at 202-863-8500.

Based on what happened with the autocall before that one, the mail should arrive soon.

Earlier last week, McCain's campaign had done a rather puzzling autocall complaining that while the country was in a financial crisis Obama was spending too much time hobnobbing with Hollywood sparklies instead of talking to his financial advisors. Who would care?

McCain's crazed campaign team must be convinced someone cares, because Monday a piece of direct mail, with the same message and the requisite photos of Obama and (gasp!) Barbra Streisand arrived.

It's hard to imagine that's what will tip undecided voters to McCain.

But, if that modus operandi holds up, the Obama-Ayres piece should be in your mailbox soon.

Today's autocall was designed to make you worried about Obama being pro-criminal:

Hi, this is Rudy Giuliani and I'm calling for John McCain and the Republican National Committee, because you need to know that Barack Obama opposes mandatory prison sentences for sex offenders, drug dealers, and murderers. It's true, I read Obama's words myself. And recently, Congressional liberals introduced a bill to eliminate mandatory prison sentences for violent criminals -- trying to give liberal judges the power to decide whether criminals are sent to jail or set free. With priorities like these, we just can't trust the inexperience and judgment of Barack Obama and his liberal allies. What's left after terrorism and crime? A Jeremiah Wright autocall and mailer? Obama's a black Muslim?

Don't put it past McCain and Co. He has nothing to lose. Even his reputation as a somewhat decent if misguided person is long gone.

And he'll clearly stop at nothing now as he self-destructs.
