The first Winter Soldier took place in 1971, when a group of brave Vietnam Vets came together to give testimony and expose the evils of the war they fought and sacrificed themselves in. Iraq/Afghanistan Veterans are now at a similar turning point of this war. Many veterans have been affected by the criminal nature of the Iraq Occupation and are going to Washington DC to continue in the footsteps of Winter Soldier 1971. Iraq Veterans Against the War (IVAW) will bring together 500 soldiers from around the United States to share their stories and support one another as they speak the truth about war, which, most times, can be a lonesome experience. The hearings can be seen live on the Internet, but also will be publicly screened in Madison and Milwaukee. On Saturday, March 15, Wisconsin Network for Peace and Justice will be joining with Iraq Vets Against the War – Wisconsin to sponsor live video at Madison’s Orpheum theater from 1 to 6 p.m.

A Veterans for Peace project: Sick Of It Day is a day for everybody who is SICK OF THE LIES, SICK OF THE CORRUPTION, SICK OF THE WAR to make their statement in a way it will really count—CALL IN SICK on March 19, the 5th anniversary of the Iraq invasion! In our own Declaration of Independence, it says, “Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed…” Calling in sick on March 19, “Sick Of It Day” is a powerful way for every one of us to withdraw our consent from a government that continues an immoral, illegal and SICK war. Join us! Call in sick! Withdraw your consent! Stop the war! More info: http://www.sickofitday.org:80/ Start: 17:15

On March 19th, tens of thousands of people across the country will gather to observe the fifth anniversary of the war with candlelight vigils. We'll commemorate the sacrifices too many families have made, and the billions of dollars wasted in Iraq that could have been better invested at home.. Join us at a candlelight vigil on Wednesday, March 19th. Honor the sacrifice. Change our priorities. Bring the troops home.
