Steve Hanson's Blog

Steve Hanson is the founder of Uppity Wisconsin. In his spare time he is a web developer of interactive web sites for nonprofit groups. This is his blog.

"It seems very clear that beginning sometime in the '90s and up through today, young people have been more likely to say they're Democrats than Republicans, and more likely to be liberal than to be conservative," said Scott Keeter, director of survey research for the non-partisan Pew Research Center. Keeter said that's a reversal from a Reagan-era trend in the '80s in which young voters skewed Republican.

There's a recent article in the Journal-Sentinel outlining the exit poll results from WIsconsin . Turns out that we had the highest youth-vote turnout in the country, and that this probably had profound effects on the outcome of the 2006 election. Too bad it wasn't enough to sway the votes on the referenda - but from the results I've seen (for example, the precincts at Stout, our local UW campus, were heavily anti-referenda) the youth vote probably helped quite a lot even there.
