Global Warming Just Isn't Cool--with guest speaker, Tia Nelson, winner of
2000 EPA Climate Leadership Award.
Getting serious in fighting global warming will be the theme of the Third
Annual State of the Union Event held by the Coulee Progressives on Friday
evening, January 26 at the Concordia Ballroom, 1129 La Crosse Street in La
Crosse.
The event begins at 5:00 p.m. with a Community Energy Fair, where local
activists, organizations and businesses will have informational displays
on reducing energy use through sustainable construction, new
transportation technologies, government action and more. A simple dinner
including vegetarian and vegan items will be prepared by the UW-L Native
American Students Association.
This year's keynote speaker is Tia Nelson, daughter of Gaylord Nelson, the
founder of Earth Day. Ms. Nelson has decades of experience in climate
change issues, and now serves as Executive Secretary of Wisconsin’s
Board of Commissioners of Public Lands. Following Nelson’s talk join us
for Klub Karma and dance to ZJ music from clubs around the world.
Admission is by a "sliding scale" donation of $2 to $15. We also encourage
people to bring a non-perishable food item for the WAFER food pantry.
For more information about this event or to reserve display space, visit
www.CouleeProgressives.org or email z [at] purplearth [dot] net.
Coulee Progressives is a virtual community of groups and individuals in
the La Crosse area working on environmental, peace and justice issues.
We have a limited number of long tables. If you'd like table space, we
request a donation of $5 per 1/2 table (3 to 4 feet) or $10 for a full
table. We are especially interested in groups or individuals who can show
how they have made a difference and can help others with things like
sustainable living; making conscious transportation decisions; using solar
energy/living off the grid; local food production and more.
