Iraq Moratorium Sept. 21

At the risk of sounding like an old geezer -- "Did I ever tell you kids about the Vietnam Moratorium in 1969?" -- this is an idea whose time has come again. It is likely to start small and build over time. But it is time to start.

This from Veterans for Peace:

Beginning Friday, September 21, the Iraq Moratorium will begin. The Iraq Moratorium will consist of monthly escalating actions against the war and occupation of Iraq.

Starting on September 21, individuals are encouraged to break away from their daily routine to help speak out about the war every third Friday of every month.

Here are some action ideas that you can use to break the cycle of normalcy and end this war! Wear and distribute black ribbons and armbands

Buy no gas on Moratorium days

Pressure politicians and the media

Hold vigils, pickets, rallies, and teach-ins

Hold special religious services

Coordinate events in music, art, and culture

Host film showings, talks, and educational events

Organize student actions: Teach-ins, school closings, etc.

Iraq Moratorium website.

In Milwaukee, call Peace Action Wisconsin for coordinated actions: 414-964-5158. The Milwaukee Coalition for a Just Peace will hold a vigil on Friday, September 21, at 5:00 p.m., at Wisconsin Ave. and Water St. in downtown Milwaukee.

UPDATE: Jessica McBride doesn't like the idea, including the timing (that I posted it on 9/11.) Can't think of a better day than the one when George Bush's representatives are telling Congress we may be in Iraq for years and years.

All us old geezers

As another old geezer, I can't help but notice that everything lately feels more and more familiar. Am I the only one who occasionally gets confused and refers to the current president as Nixon?

Yeah, ol' Jess is on a roll today

At least I understood her piece on you, even though it was kind of silly - the rest of them sort of just confused me.

Even more than normal.
