SWWAP
Posted May 22nd, 2006 by Steve HansonThe SouthWest Wisconsin Area Progressives (SWWAP) is a local democracy-in-action group advocating progressive government policies that work for a sustainable future. The group is committed to educating the public, as well as itself, in current events. It feels that such an ongoing education, in this warp speed world, is necessary in order to participate in our democracy as informed citizens. SWWAP is open to discussing a broad range of issues, and future topics may include: the occupation in Iraq; voting registration; education; the economy; trade policies; healthcare; current USA alienation and unilateralism in the world; our eroding democracy; and environmental concerns. Topics will be discussed as they are relevant.
This progressive group also feels that when American citizens remain uninformed and apathetic, they do not vote, and their democratic government is then weakened. The group is concerned that this apathetic attitude is growing in America and wants to challenge that apathetic way of being. Hence, SWWAP has been formed.

Take Back the Assembly
Posted July 22nd, 2007 by Steve HansonIntroducing a new blog aimed at taking control of the state assembly:
Today seems like a great day to kick off a 16-month project to blog
about retaking the majority in the Wisconsin State Assembly for
Democrats. After the Democratically-controlled Senate passed, on a
party-line vote, their own version of a biennial budget,
the Republican-controlled Assembly is considering tonight a regressive
budget that seeks to make Wisconsin a terrible place to live (in the
next few days or so, I'll include things about the GOP budget and
Democrat's budget - and highlight how radically out of touch state
Republicans are with not only the people of Wisconsin, but also with
reality). Just in case you're up for a little prep reading, you can
check out what the Republican budget looks like too.

Wisconsin Vote
Posted August 13th, 2006 by Steve HansonWisconsin Vote is a project of Wisconsin Public Television, Wisconsin Public Radio, and the University of Wisconsin-Extension.
Wisconsin vote has recently been revamped, and carries quite a lot of information on the upcoming elections and candidates.
Content for this site comes from the news departments of Wisconsin Public Radio and Television with links to relevant articles from other media sources on the Web. The site is updated regularly during election seasons.
Candidates listed on Wisconsin Vote are those officially registered with the State Elections Board. Wisconsin Vote only covers federal and state races including those for state constitutional officers, U.S. Senate and Congress, and the state senate, assembly and state supreme court. We unfortunately do not have staff to provide coverage of local or county races.
