1000 Friends of Wisconsin was created to protect and enhance Wisconsin’s urban and rural landscapes by providing citizens with the inspiration, information and tools they need to effectively participate in the decisions that have the greatest impact on community health: where we live, work, learn, play and how we get from one place to another.

Cambrians for Thoughtful Development are a diverse group of citizens living in and around the village of Cambria in Columbia County, Wisconsin. We organized in 2002 in opposition to plans by Didion Milling to build an ethanol plant here in Cambria and within a quarter mile of our schools. Although the citizens of Cambria rejected the plant in 2003, in April of 2006 we learned that the same company is seeking to build an ethanol plant a scant 22 feet south of our village border.

Fostering the Land Ethic

In 1982, Leopold’s children, Starker, Luna, Nina, Carl, and Estella, all respected conservationists themselves, established the Aldo Leopold Foundation in response to the growing interest in their father’s legacy. For more than twenty years, the Aldo Leopold Foundation has promoted the care of natural resources and fostered an ethical relationship between people and land.

Established in 2002, the Wisconsin League of Conservation Voters (WLCV)
is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to electing
conservation leaders to the state legislature and encouraging lawmakers
