Override Bush Veto That Kills Crohn's and Colitis Research

Update: Stem Cells Eyed to Cure Crohn's Disease in Europe-wide Trial

The Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America (CCFA) is a non-profit, volunteer-driven organization dedicated to finding the cure for Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis.

Some two million Americans suffer from this intestinal disorder of an unknown cause.

An aggressive but small group of Americans are dedicated to finding a cure and new treatments, (such as Irwin M. and Suzanne Rosenthal, William D. and Shelby Modell, and Henry D. Janowitz, M.D.).

I know this personally, because my girlfriend suffers from Chrohn's.

[We happen to be extremely lucky because she has excellent health insurance, a wonderfully supportive work environment and world-class medical care here in Madison, Wisconsin, exemplified by one Dr. Mark Reichelderfer , a magnificently manically humorous and brilliant professor of medicine in Madison. No joke, we truly love this guy with the personality and brilliance that reminds one of something of a cross between Einstein and Mel Brooks.]

Many others suffering from Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis are not so lucky as we.

And the movement for a cure and widespread treatments just took a hit.

A Crohn's and Colitis Advocacy Action Alert has been issued stating that important government funding was just vetoed by President Bush:

On Tuesday November 13th, President Bush vetoed the FY08 Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations Bill sent to him by Congress last week. This legislation contains important funding increases for the National Institutes of Health (NIH) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

Whatever one's politics, Crohn's disease and ulcerative colitis are conditions that one would not wish upon one's worse enemy.

Please contact President Bush and call the Capitol Switchboard at (202) 225-3121 to contact your Congressional reps to preserve this funding in the "FY08 Labor-HHS-Education Appropriations Bill".
