Milwaukee Needs More People Working, Not Less Representation:
Community to Protest Corporate Elites Plotting Power Grab
MILWAUKEE: On Thursday, January 24th, community, labor, and religious leaders will protest a fundraiser hosted by Greater Milwaukee Committee front-group “Smart Government Inc.” The event will raise money for the corporate campaign to effectively eliminate the Milwaukee County Board.
Protesters believe that the proposal being pushed by big money special interests is a corporate takeover of local government that threatens democracy and jeopardizes oversight of critical public services like transit, parks and mental health.
According to the invitation from the corporate special interest group Greater Milwaukee Committee, the event is hosted by a who’s who of Milwaukee’s big money elite, including CEOs, hedge fund executives and corporate welfare recipients.
Members of the community will attend the fundraiser to demand that the Greater Milwaukee Committee, County Executive Chris Able, and special interests representing wealthy elites back away from their plan to dismantle the County Board and instead focus on creating jobs and opportunity for hardworking Wisconsinites.
