Wisconsin Lacks Women Writers on Politics

Update: Voices too often missing in op-ed land: women's

via mal contends - One of my favorite political sites is WiscOpinion.

But take a look at WiscOpinion and you see a disturbing trend, echoed across the state: Few women writers expressing their political views in blogs.

It's not sexism by WiscOpinion or any other site, it's a lack of women expressing their voices.

Consider another of my favorite sites: Uppity Wisconsin.

I know women writers here, but they write under a pseudomyn, safety being an obvious concern.

There are notable exceptions:

- Milwaukee Rising
- Lost Albatross
- Dane 101

But they are the exceptions. And that's a shame.

Below is WiscOpinion's writers for 7/29/2008; note that some nine-in-ten writers is male.

Not sure what the solution is, but it is most definitely a problem.

There's me ...

But I guess I don't write frequently enough. I'll try to remedy that.

I suspect you've identified part of the reason in your post

As a matter of policy WisOpinion doesn't include anything from anonymous bloggers. Many of the female bloggers choose to post under pseudonyms. Therefore, they never show up on WisOpinion. This is why many of the bloggers (including all the women that I can think of) on Uppity Wisconsin are never quoted in WisOpinion. They seem to not want to do so even if their biography on the site identifies their name (for example, they never used to ever include me until I changed my login name from shanson to Steve Hanson.

self-absolution, it's a beautiful thing ain't it dude?

well thanks for that.

at least the male writer pontificates for all of us and declares that "there is no sexism among politcal males in WI", that women are just.....weak? afraid? not eequal to the task?

There is no sexism.
Thanks again, I'll make a note of that in my littel Life Experience book. Silly ol' me, I imagined it all.
*faint*

and as to the Obedient Chick who responds with "oh noes! do I not measure up? I'll try to do better" Whatta putz.
