Greedy corporate SOBs trash national treasure Harpers Ferry National Historic Park. Just a tragedy.

The Blood Trade For a whole lot of people in a whole lot of places, this really is a friggin horrible world. Hard to look at it any other way. Be glad you have a computer and electricity and wifi and food and clean water and laws and that sort of thing. Real glad.

Who would Jesus torture? Randall Balmer relates the results in a Philadelphia Inquirer Op-Ed:

Torture, Habeas Corpus, and The American Way

I've been trying lately to say more about Wisconsin and less about the country as a whole - but it's difficult. There's plenty wrong in Wisconsin, but it's just nothing compared to what the dolts we seem to have elected to Congress and The Presidency keep doing to us. So indulge me for a few minutes.

I used to think I actually understood what America stood for (at least in theory). I could quote the founding fathers and great US politicians and thinkers throughout the ages, but what's the point? The crux of the matter is that our government appears to have decided that chucking everything that we have believed in as a nation is justified because we got scared.

What liberal media? Today MSNBC decided to forego substantive discussion of terrorism and instead focused on the fact that former President Bill Clinton’s sock had slipped and part of his “white” leg was showing during his interview with Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace. The MSNBC host asked her guests, “Is this a travesty or what?” Yes, it is, but not in the way you think.

Iraq War Decisions: To grow or get out now

"Bring Our Troops Home Now" has made the news lately in Wisconsin's Kickapoo Valley. On August 29, 2006 the Viroqua City Council acted on a petition for "direct Legislation" that had been circulated by local citizens stating "Resolved: The United States should bring all military personnel home from Iraq now." Because the council did not support the resolution it will go on the November ballot as a referendum. Boscobel will also be voting on this issue in November, La_Crosse passed a similar referendum last April. Pretty radical stuff for this corner of the state.

All this in light of the Bush administration's recent announcement of troop increases, despite the security report indicating that the war in Iraq is fueling the jihad cells and activities worldwide.

The not quite infallible Pope I finally got around to reading Pope Benedict's recent remarks on reason and faith, and I was appalled. The reference to Islam near the beginning of the speech was entirely gratuitous and disingenuous, as were Benedict's subsequent crocodile tears over the idea that anyone could have taken offense at his remarks. For the record, here's the nickel version of what he said:

Mohammed was a violent man. Violence is unreasonable. God loves reason. Draw your own conclusions.

Voting Fraud Double Feature?

Are any of you up for a Voting Fraud double feature?

Just in time for the election, Uppity Wisconsin can arrange to have a showing of both American Blackout and Stealing America - Vote by Vote . See the amazing story of how George W. Bush became president, and why all the same things are likely to happen in November and in 2008. Find out why so many votes keep on mysteriously disappearing, and who those votes belong to.

Please let us know if you're interested in these 2 films. This time we'd like to arrange a slightly larger venue, as the seats for our first showing, Iraq For Sale, are going fast. If you're interested in seeing either or both of these films please let us know by leaving a comment on this article, or by using the Contact link at the top of the page.

Record Number of
Agents to Public Corruption Cases
"There is so much political corruption on Capitol Hill that the FBI has had to triple the number of squads investigating
lobbyists, lawmakers and influence peddlers, the Daily News has learned. "For
decades, only one squad in Washington handled corruption cases because the
crimes were seen as local offenses handled by FBI field offices in lawmakers'
home districts.
