Rummy and the Morons

Well, it would seem that I am a moron!

No, Really.. I never learned. I have to defer to the wise and well educated Donald Rumsfeld, who today let a hall full of American Legion Members know that if one a opposes the war in Iraq that they are suffering from “moral or intellectual confusion." Now, maybe I am a tad off base, but I think Rumsfeld just called me a moron!

Rummy also told the Legion members that "some seem not to have learned"... Well, I am always willing to look back on my beliefs and see if I am a bit skewed...I guess he is right, there are a few things that I never learned: I never learned that the only way to peace is by sending hundreds of thousands of troops to a foreign country and start killing their citizens. I never learned that it ok to lie to my fellow Americans in the name of National Security.

Nazis- 60/Protesters-800

Hey, Our team won!

800 to 60 is a great ratio and I think that we should cheer on those 800 folks that reminded the members of the National Socialist Movement that we kicked their brethren outta a few European places 60 years ago. This great battle was fought on the steps of the State Capitol on Saturday with around 300 Police and the State Patrol as referees, and between the 2pm and 4pm time frame reserved by the losers. The Nazis made 'you stink' gestures at the protestors were loud enough to drown out a majority of the speakers. And, as should be at the end of all great battles we should review the "tapes" and look at the errors; both sides made a few.

Welcome to Nowhere

Opening with an opening is the way to go for my first blog, I guess.

I have lived in the Chippewa Valley for over 10 years.I was raised in the Bay Area, also known as "The land of the Phantom Freeway." Yes! That's the one! In Santa Clara, California. It goes nowhere. It ends in the air, occasionally with a car sitting on the edge like an over told joke. On the 21st of this fine month another nowhere was opened, and most don't even realize it. Now, I have driven 53 on a bad day and I understand the frustration all of the drivers out there that could give a rat's tail about anything but getting home after working hard here in the valley, but this multi million dollar project overshadows our greater need.

Senator Allen, Racism, and Republican Politics (and MoveOn)

I'm sure you've all by now read about the flap with Senator Allen and his "Macaca" comment.

MoveOn is sponsoring a campaign to have the Republicans remove support from Allen and to denounce racism as a campaign tactic.

Subject: Sen. Allen has to go

On Friday Republican Senator George Allen sunk to a new low. At a campaign stop the Virginia senator singled out the only non-white member of the audience--S.R. Sidarth, a young Indian-American volunteering for his opponent--and called him "macaque" (a racial slur meaning 'monkey'). He went on to say, "welcome to America." As it happens, Mr. Sidarth was born and raised in Virginia.

Can you join me in asking the Republican National Committee to take a stand against these tactics and withdraw support for Sen. Allen? (You can also watch video of the incident through the link below).

Uppity Wisconsin Taking a Well-Deserved Vacation

Things will be slow in Uppity-Land for the next couple weeks. Your editor is taking a vacation and will be in beautiful Nova Scotia and Vermont for a while. There might not be any new articles till about August 10. In the meantime, please submit calendar entries, or web links, or articles - I'll find a little time to edit while I'm gone.

George W. Bush is Dead To Me - San Francisco Gate

I thought this was an interesting and thought-provoking article - how have we managed to reach the point where the president of the United States is an embarrassment to both parties?

Nation cringes as the worst president ever continues long, painful slog to the end

It may not sound like much. It may not seem like a major shift. But it is, in its way, sort of massive. For thoughtful Repubs with a conscience (they actually exist, I have seen them), there is little left to defend. There is little this administration has done among all categories of ostensible GOP values that they can look to with any sort of pride. Medicare? Shrinking the budget? Smaller government? Less intervention in our lives? Reduced spending? Increased respect in the international community? Responsible international citizen? Ha. Name your topic, BushCo has failed. Spectacularly. Intentionally.

Run for the State Assembly - Mark Pocan

2006 has the potential to being the perfect storm for electing new faces to the state legislature.

First, several polls have shown the lowest polling for state legislative incumbents ever (well, within my adult memory anyway). People don’t necessarily like incumbent legislators this year. The GOP gets that. Their defacto-leader, Rep. Mike Huebsch, has told his members to run like it is their first time. It is NOT a good year for incumbents, especially GOP ones.

Second, every Republican member of the Assembly voted to kill ethics reform. Some just did it more than others.Run for the State Assembly

Carbon dioxide levels up dramatically

Gee - and here we all are sitting waiting for definitive proof that there's a problem. One National story, one Wisconsin story.

By JOHN HEILPRIN, Associated Press Writer 57 minutes ago

WASHINGTON - The Earth is the hottest it has been in at least 400 years, probably even longer. The National Academy of Sciences, reaching that conclusion in a broad review of scientific work requested by Congress, reported Thursday that the "recent warmth is unprecedented for at least the last 400 years and potentially the last several millennia."

Editorial: La Follette's Wisconsin - The Capital Times

Today's Capital Times contains an editorial reflecting on Robert La Follette, and the new dedication of the state office building in Madison in La Follette's name. Uppity Wisconsin believes wholeheartedly in what the editorial says about how we've drifted from Progressive ideals, and need to move back:
