Community Conversations Menomonie - expansion of family farms

Printer-friendly version
Community Conversations on Sat., October 8, will feature a presentation by Jeff Smith about expansion of Factory Farms.  The Cranberry Creek CAFO proposed expansion is located in the Town of Rock Creek in southern Dunn County.  The herd of 1,720 may be permitted to increase to 7,250.  That expansion includes the plan to dispose of 5.6 million gallons of liquid manure and 600 tons of solid manure per year.  Adjacent landowners, those who lease lands to the dairy, and area residents have expressed concerns about the expansion of this factory farm.  Those concerns include “the long term quality and quantity of ground water and the impact this has on residents and farmers.”  Rock Creek Township officials and adjacent towns, are concerned about ground water quality and truck traffic damaging roads in their township.  Neighbors are concerned about contamination of their wells and other health concerns.  Come join us in the presentation and discussion that follows.
