Republicans Pass Trio of Bills Putting Vulnerable Families at Risk of Homelessness

MADISON – Representative Lisa Subeck (D-Madison), ranking member on the Assembly Committee on Public Benefit Reform, released the following statement in response to passage by the State Assembly of AB 238, AB 240, and AB 242, a trio of Republican bills that put Wisconsin’s most vulnerable families at risk of homelessness.

“Today, I was proud to stand with my Democratic colleagues who showed great empathy for individuals and families who live in poverty and struggle to feed their children and to keep a roof over their heads.

It is unfortunate that Assembly Republicans, who last week stood on the Assembly floor and claimed they wanted to end homelessness, today passed a series of punitive measures that will directly result in families losing their incomes and becoming homeless.

Instead of shaming and punishing our most vulnerable neighbors, we should put our energy and resources into addressing the root causes of poverty, raising wages, and building a fair economy that works for all.”
